The most common material for brake drums is gray cast iron, with a small number of materials being alloy steel and ductile iron.

The gray cast iron grades used in automobile brake drums mainly include: HT250/HT300, G3000, FC250,/FC300, GG25/GG30.


Brake drums need to withstand high-frequency friction and high temperatures, and are usually made of gray cast iron as the main material because of its good wear resistance, thermal conductivity and shock absorption, making it suitable for frequent braking scenarios.


The solid CBN insert enables "roughing and finishing in one" machining process, completing multiple steps in one clamping, and is suitable for lathes or dedicated machining centers.


For brake drums, SCBN TOOLS has introduced the cost-effective SBN950 & SBN850 grade.
